Have you ever heard a song that you connected with at a deep level? You felt like it understood you, explained you, was made for you. There is nothing better than the feeling of discovering that one song that completely captures your vibe. Here is a track that is guaranteed to match your energy based on your Myers-Briggs type. Each one was chosen based on the lyrics, meaning, and general energy of the song. Enjoy finding your new jam!

ENFP: Mat and Kim — Daylight

“Slip and slide on subway grates These shoes are poor man’s ice skates Fall through like change in the daylight”

Daylight has an upbeat, quirky energy that perfectly captures the essence of the ENFP’s creative, childlike (and slightly chaotic) existence. It’s a song about living a free, spontaneous life without giving a crap what others think. The singer alludes to several ENFP-like adventures such as throwing his shoes into the ocean, ice skating on subway grates, and hitchhiking to Maine. There’s no better song to personify the ENFP than a song about embracing randomness and living life to the fullest.

ENFJ: Matisyahu — One Day

I’ve been prayin’ for For the people to say That we don’t wanna fight no more There’ll be no more war And our children will play”

ENFJs are fiercely idealistic. They believe in a better tomorrow and fight for it every day. They care intensely about the state of the world and do their part to better it. “One Day” is a song about hope for a better world where instead of fighting people care about each other and treat others with respect. It’s idealistic lyrics and hopeful optimism perfectly capture the spirit of the ENFJ.

INTP: Coast Modern — Guru

“I’m chilling on the sofa I don’t want to yoga I don’t want to life right now”

“Guru” is an introvert’s anthem. It is about a man who badly needs a shave, sleeps through the day, loves chilling on the sofa, and has created a “cave in the basement.” Although humorous, it also hits on deeper topics such as getting through ruts, finding someone who accepts you, and improving oneself. It’s incredibly relatable lyrics and zanny beat are perfect for the intelligent homebodies that are INTPs.

INFP: Regina Spektor — Us

“Rummaging for answers in the pages We’re living in a den of thieves And it’s contagious”

“Us” is a song about growing up to find out that the world is not the place we expected it to be when we were young. It is about finding out that we were sheltered from the harsh realities in life as children and being faced with finding one’s way in the world. It is a beautiful tribute to youthful innocence sung with soulful passion that is perfect for INFPs. It is unique, beautiful, authentic, and indignant at injustice — just like INFPs.

ENTJ: The White Stripes — Seven Nation Army

“I’m gonna fight ’em all A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back”

If I were to put money on any of the Myers-Briggs types to actually defeat a seven nation army single-handedly, it would without a doubt be the ENTJ. Bold, commandeering, and analytical, ENTJs have the wherewithal to accomplish just about whatever they want in life. They are not much put off by hangups, and this song captures that perfectly. The energy of the track screams “Here I am. Now deal with it.” The song itself describes a man who returns to his hometown to find everyone spreading malicious gossip about him. Instead of getting caught up in the drama like a middle schooler, he simply leaves the town — much like an ENTJ would.

ISFJ: The White Stripe — We’re Going to Be Friends

“And when I wake tomorrow I’ll bet That you and I will walk together again I can tell that we are gonna be friends”

We’re Going to Be Friends is a simple and endearing song about the budding friendship of two young children. It perfectly reflects the loyal, caring, and committed nature of the ISFJ. It’s not overly complex or introspective, but then again neither are ISFJs. There’s no better song for the most loyal and nurturing Meyers-Briggs type than a song about a simple friendship with no strings attached.

INFJ: AJR, Rivers Cuomo — Sober Up

“Won’t you help me sober up Growing up it made me numb And I want to feel something again”

The energy of ”Sober Up” is mellow, introspective, and doleful — just like the INFJ. It’s also a song with a lot of depth that explores meaningful and complex topics. It’s about remembering the feeling of our first crush that we had as small children and questioning whether that purity of love and simplicity of emotion can ever be regained. It questions whether true connection has been lost in today’s fast paced, entertainment-obsessed society. Complex, philosophical, and deep, it’s the INFJ anthem.

ESFJ: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros — Home

“Oh, home, let me come home Home is wherever I’m with you”

ESFJs are warm, kind, caring, and relationship-oriented. Their welcoming energy is perfectly captured by the heartwarming instrumentals and endearing lyrics of “Home”. The song is about a couple that, although still infatuated with each other, is committed to each other and in it for the long haul. It is about the fact that home is not where we live. Home is the people we care about. The song oozes the feeling of comfort that comes from just being around ESFJs.

ESFP: Bryce Vine — Sour Patch Kids

“I don’t wanna worry bout nothing for a while I just wanna play around living’ like a child”

The lighthearted, youthful energy of “Sour Patch Kids” perfectly captures the essence of the ESFP. Having a funky and energetic melody that could make anybody want to tap a toe, this song is about wanting to stay young and carefree instead of stressing about success. The singer wants to simply forget about his responsibilities and instead listen to music, eat sour patch kids, and drink soft drinks. All ESFPs will relate to this notion of wanting to stay mentally young despite physical aging.

ENTP: Coin — Talk Too Much

“I never leave it unsaid Why can’t I leave it unsaid? You know I talk too much Honey, come put your lips on mine and shut me up”

If there is one thing ENTPs can relate to it is talking too much. Because they are avid debaters of all topics and pay the devil’s advocate with ease, ENTPs can take any side on any issue just to play out an intellectual idea. This, paired with their bluntness, makes them the talkative, smart-mouths of the Myers-Briggs. ENTPs will relate not only to the title of “Talk Too Much” but also to the cleverness and wit of the lyrics. Trying to get a girl to kiss him, the singer responds to complaints about his “talking too much” by cheekily saying “honey come put your lips on mine and shut me up.” Out of all the types, ENTPs are the most likely to come up with such a quick-witted, flirty retort.

ISTP: alt-J — Breezeblocks

“Muscle to muscle and toe to toe The fear has gripped me, but here I go”

I will admit, the lyrics and meaning of Breezeblocks have nothing to do with the ISTP. (It is a dark song about a man loving a woman so much he wants to hurt her to keep her from leaving him) However, the feel of the song is 100% ISTP. The intense beat, slightly raspy vocals, and edgy style gives the song a rough and badass vibe that absolutely screams “made for ISTPs”. It is a drum and guitar heavy track that oozes independence, toughness, and badassed-ness. It makes me feel like an ISTP just by listening to it (and I’m an ENFP).

ESTP: Social House, Lil Yachty — Magic In The Hamptons

“I wanna dance with you, I wanna laugh, I wanna sing Take you on the road, have you rockin’ on my bling”

The confident, self-indulgent, devil-may-care energy captured by “Magic In The Hamptons” is perfect for ESTPs. The song is about a guy meeting a girl in the Hamptons and having a great time with her. For some, approaching a total stranger and persuading her to join in on a night of fun would be absolutely terrifying. Not for ESTPs. They have the confidence, charisma, and taste for adventure that “Magic In The Hamptons” is all about.

ISFP: Clairo — Pretty Girl

“And I could be a pretty girl I’ll wear a skirt for you And I could be a pretty girl Shut up when you want me to”

ISFPs are free spirited individualists who would rather find their own way in life than fit into somebody else’s mold of normalcy. ISFPs can also be very private, however, not voicing their concern and anger but instead keeping their feelings hidden. “Pretty girl” captures this. The singer is basically saying, “Yes, I could give in to being what someone else wants me to be, but instead I’m going to be my own independent person. I don’t owe it to anyone to be their ‘pretty girl’”. This message perfectly captures the quiet, yet individualistic spirit of the ISFP.

ISTJ: Yusuf / Cat Stevens — Father and Son

“Find a girl, settle down If you want you can marry Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy”

ISTJs are the backbone of society. They are structured, stable, and committed. Without them anarchy would be imminent. ISTJs tend to prefer a more traditional, slow paced life and that is perfectly portrayed in “Father in Son”. In the song, a father is consoling his restless and adventuresome son to take up a traditional life and settle down instead of leaving home to find his own way. It is a heartbreaking exchange as neither the father nor son understands the other’s point of view. But it truly captures the unwavering love that the (likely ISTJ) father has for his son and his happiness with his own simple and quiet life.

ESTJ: Lizzo — Truth Hurts

“You’re supposed to hold me down But you’re holding me back And that’s the sound of me not calling you back”

“Truth Hurts” is a song about not taking crap from people. It is a song that says “Don’t like me? Sucks for you!” It is bold, confident, and no-nonsense — just like the ESTJ. ESTJs do not beat around the bush or dance around the truth; they tell it like it is — whether you like it or not. The no-nonsense tone and aggressive lyrics exude the big energy of the ESTJ (and show you why you should never mess with one).

INTJ: Tears For Fears — Everybody Wants To Rule The World

“I can’t stand this indecision Married with a lack of vision Everybody wants to rule the world”

“Everybody Wants To Rule The World” is a song that criticizes meaningless violence in an attempt to gain power. It questions why the people of the world are trapped in a cycle of war and destruction without ever really getting anything done. INTJs can relate to this notion of preferring to disarm conflict diplomatically and intelligently rather than via brute force. With their intellectual cunning and intuitive understanding, however, INTJs are likely to actually be the ones to one day rule the world.
